Seminar by the RNLI

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. It operates a 24/7 lifeboat service around the coast of the UK and republic of Ireland. It designs, supplies and supports lifeboats and related plant and equipment for over 200 lifeboat stations.

Jodie Walsh’s presentation was an introduction to the Engineering & Supply function of the RNLI that is responsible for the safe, effective and efficient provision of products and services to frontline Volunteers. From Finite Element Analysis in design, to In-Service Scheduling Optimisation of Maintenance Technicians, the RNLI benefits from Computer simulations and Modelling to aid decision making in all areas of its operations. Furthermore, Jodie remarked on the usefulness of CAD design documents that can be used throughout the life cycle of a product, including decision making on deployment suitability and ordering of spare parts.
